On LinkedIn, everyone knows me as a Customer Success guy.
But this is the real me…
Journey
– I was a lonely kid.
– I didn’t have a lot of friends growing up.
– My dad died when I was 23. He was 48.
– My biggest regret is not speaking at his funeral.
– I inherited my love of Elvis Presley from my mom.
– I remember her crying the day he died.
– I got a guitar for my 9th birthday, and have been playing ever since.
Family
– My wife is the only reason I am still here.
– We have two boys, 20 and 23.
– They are better than me in every way.
– Their kindness is my greatest accomplishment.
– I spent thousands of hours sitting in hockey rinks around Ontario.
– I miss those car rides.
– Worst moment of my life – getting the text, “It’s a mass on his brain.”
– The best moment of my life – “Surgery went well, he’ll be fine.”
TV, movies and music
– My favourite TV show is Arrested Development.
– My favourite movie is Shawshank Redemption. I hope the ocean is as blue as my dreams.
– My favourite bands are The Tragically Hip and The Rolling Stones.
– I took my oldest to see the Stones in New York last year.
– My sons like good music. For some reason, I’m really proud of that.
Growth
– I believe curiosity is the key to leading a bigger life.
– I launched a podcast to people outside my comfort zone.
– It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
– The only thing I care about is being a man my kids can be proud of.
– I loved drinking. I started when I was 17, and didn’t miss a weekend until I was 52.
– I’ve been sober for 3 years.
Work
– I am a speaker and coach that helps teams rediscover their curiosity, and be the rockstars they’ve always been.
– I am good at it, but my confidence is fragile.
– I’ve got 10 good years left, and I want to make a bigger impact.
– The more I share of myself on LinkedIn, the more whole I feel.
I don’t know what compelled me to write this article.
But I’m glad I did.
I just have no idea how to end it.
